Critical! New Cell Phone Washed & Left Overnight!?

My son just got a new cell phone 2 weeks ago. It was washed last night. I did not realize it until this morning. Of course, being a stupid mom, I tried to turn it on...then I tried to dry it with the hair dryer for a bit...and it looked like a lot of it had dried, b/c no moisture in the screen...so I again, very stupid...put the battery back in...I believe the phone was on when this all happened. Is there hope of saving this phone? Still trying to dry it out. Thanks for any help!

if you still got the sales receipts, just go to the store, talk to the manager really nice, and see if you can exchange it.....it never hurts to ask....

Sorry, but I really think that new phone is now toast. The money we pay for these things, they should really start making them a little more durable.

My mates phone fell down the loo and still worked when it dried out!

Put it in the airing cupboard and try again in the morning.

not 100% sure but you can probably forget it. If you would have opened it taken the battery out and let it dry in front of the air conditioner or fan for minimum 24 hours it may work. But it depends on whether it was on when it got wet. Air conditioner works well for drying because the air dryer or condenser pulls the moisture out of the air that comes out of the unit. good luck with that.

I guess its to late now, putting the battery back in was not so smart.I went trough a hurricane and all my stereo equipment was water damaged,a friend of mine (a Electrician) told me to open all casings and hose the interior with fresh water, the trick is to leave it to dry for a very long time, and I did as I was told and the stuff really worked again.

I dropped mine in a ditch w/2 feet of water in it, while it was on. I pulled the battery out and then took it apart and dried it out and it worked just fine, but you should have insurance on it cause stuff like that happens every now and then.

Hear this story:

Octoberfest in Munich, Germany.

One guy uses his cell phone, call after call, and people get disturbed.

Another table people get up to leave.

On his way, comes over to this chap, takes his communicator

and drowns the guys Nokia in the beer mug full to the brink.

Owner looks and can't comprehend what happened and the

guys leave the scene.

Now this is where it goes.

The owner thought the phone is useless and sold it of for a Euro.

Smart chap buyer removes cover rinses in alcohol solution

(not Isopropyl alcohol) and dries it with a hairdrier for a few hours.

And the phone works.

So why dont you try. The key is it should be well dried.

Do not attempt to use the phone whilst wet.

So you stand a 50/50 chance.

Good luck.

I hope your son got insurance on the phone. If you look under the battery of the phone, there is a dot. the dot is white until there is water damage. After the damage, it changes colors and voids the warranty. (most mfg offer a 1 year warranty for mfg defects) if he has insurance, he might be able to get a new one after paying a $50 deductible...In rare cases, the phones have been known to dry out and work afterwards. I ao really sorry this happened. I hope everything works out well.
