Help Me! Carpet Problem?

I am in soo much trouble, i am baby sitting at a brand new house. The child im taking care of wet the carpet so i used a hair dryer to dry it out.

I found out the carpet was synthetic and it melted, there is a huge melt stain, plz help me, how can i fix it, i will die!!!

WHAT??? Are you sure that was a hair dryer and not a freekin' HEAT GUN? I've never heard of a hair dryer that was hot enough to melt the typical polymers used in carpeting.

In any case, you tried to fix a problem and for some strange reason it didn't work - if I were the owner, I might be upset, but if you really used just a conventional hair dryer, and it indeed melted the carpet, I think I would be more upset with the carpet company. After all, you were trying to do the right thing.

Now, if you're lucky, the homeowner will have some spare carpeting that they've saved away for exactly this kind of accident. An experienced carpet layer can "surgically" replace that using any one of two or three techniques. They can even do this if the homeowner doesn't have some spare carpeting, although that will add some additional cost, and the match may not be quite as good (depends on the color and style, which if the house is new, will hopefully still be available).

put masking tape over the spot that was decigrated or put salt on it and then wait

You can't really fix it, the best you can do is probably just melt it again and try to mold it or tell the owners.

You can't.

You're doomed. The carpet will have to be replaced. I think, though, that a really good carpet guy could just cut out the spot, and very precisely tape in a new piece. They use carpet tape for seams, all the time.

I'd just tell the people what happened and be apologetic about it. I mean, it WAS their kid that caused the problem in the first place.

In the future, you might try blotting the spot dry with paper towels, first, and if you want to use a hair dryer, make sure it's on "cool", not "heat"!

By the way, that other guy's solution (the salt and masking tape) won't work. It'll just make a bigger mess.

W O W. ur screwed

Help Me! Carpet Problem?

Well I would tell them what happened. You didn't try to ruin the carpet. Just let them know as soon as they come in the door. If you don't tell them, they will know any way that you did it. The world won't end but it will feel like it will. Your not going to die. You didn't hurt there child, you didn't kill the cat. It's just a rug. You will remember this for a long time.

Good Luck

I believe Scooby Doo says it best but will give it a try RUT ROH RAGGY cant fix will have to be replaced just be honest with the parents lieing will only cause more issues honesty is the best policy

you are sooo screwed

no way to fix it

Help Me! Carpet Problem?

You won't die.

Calm down.

Here are the choices that you can do.

1. Tell the truth.

2. buy a new one.

3. Ask yourself why the heck did you use a hair dryer to dry it out???

4. Why din't you leave it alone??

5. pray to God.

that's all I can think of.

Help Me! Carpet Problem?

lol so sorry i really have no idea how to fix it. just apologize

Help Me! Carpet Problem?

The best policy is honesty. There really is no way you can fix it unless you intend on replacing the entire carpet, since the patch can't be un-melted. Just let the owners know what happened and that you're sorry. They should understand, and if they don't, oh well. There isn't much else you can do.

Good luck, hun.

Um,try covering it up with a rug?

Help Me! Carpet Problem?

I don't think that is fixable. You are going to have to call a good carpet guy and he can repair it. He will likely cut out the damaged area and replace it. I have had this done before and it is hardly noticeable

Help Me! Carpet Problem?

Unfortunately there is nothing u can do to fix melted carpet the best thing to do now is be honest. Let them know you didn't know that would happen and you were trying to clean it up.

Baby's fault, tell the owner that you did not do that!
