The fan in my computer is constantly running, but every five minutes or so, it cuts in really loud, and sounds like a hair dryer. My computer don't shut down or anything, so i don't think its over heating. Is it normal for my computer to make such a loud noise so often?

sure you got enough air flow? My fan also kicks in once in a while - but usually on a hotter day.

It maybe the bearings are going... depends on the type of noise. If it's just fan noise then it maybe working hard... if there is any grinding in there I'd plan on replacing the fan.
