Electricity problem?

the other night my boyfriend went to turn a light off and our electricity starting freaking out. Its like out lights dimmed for a few seconds and our stuff got shut off and then it started back up, and then it did it one more time. Weve been having a lot of electricity problems in this unit. I called our Power Company and they said our apartment usually runs about 200 a month in the winter. We conserve as much as we can, whats going on? Plus, i can hardly use a hair dryer anymore because it keeps blowing the circuit. whats going on??

The landlord needs to call an electrician in ASAP or you do if you own the place. There are a lot of things that could be wrong here. Loose connection at the main breaker, loose connections at the breakers, a loose neutral in your main panel or the meter base, the power company's transformer may be breaking down, etc. With out being there and checking it out no electrician would be able to say for sure. Breakers just do go bad for no apparent reason, they have to have been tripped many many times.

if the hair dryer plug is on the same circuit as the room that had the dimming problem and shutting off, probably got a weak or bad breaker

If it was just one room you have a problem with the circuit to that room. Possibly the breaker is either bad or the, main it is plugged into is bad. If it is the whole apartment you have a problem with the service coming in. Either way you need to call the landlord, and tell him. I would also call the power company if it is the whole apartment.
