It's a task to wash my cat. He is still afraid of running water and the sound of a hair dryer (he's two years old). He hates being brushed after his bath and makes meows loudly. What's the best way to wash him? I'll appreciate your experiences and tips.
What's the best way to wash a cat?
1. First dress for the occasion. A 4-ply rubber wet suit is suggested, along with a helmet, face mask and welders gloves ... lol!!!
2. A Bathtub with a glass enclosure is preferred to the one with a shower curtain. A frenzied cat can shred one of these in a few seconds.
3. Have the Kitty Bubbles and towel in the enclosed bathtub area before hand. No ... blow drying the cat after the bath is not suggested.
4. Draw the water, making it a little warmer than needed as you still need to find the cat. Position everything strategically in the shower, so you can reach it even if you are face down or prone in the tub.
5. Find your cat. Use the element of surprise. Pick the cat up, nonchalantly as if you were simply carrying him/her to the supper dish. No need to worry about the cat noticing your strange attire, the cat barely notices you anyway.
6. Once you and the cat are inside the bathroom ....speed is essential. In one single liquid motion .shut the door to the bathroom, step into the shower, close the sliding doors, and drop the cat into the water. While the cat is still in a state of shock . locate the Kitty Bubbles and squirt whatever part of him is above the water line. You have just begun the wildest 45 seconds of your life. Remember that cats have no handles and add the fact that he now has soapy fur. His state of shock has worn off and he's madder than hell.
7. As best, you can, wearing welder's gloves, try to field his body as he catapults through the air toward the ceiling. If possible, give another squirt of Kitty Bubbles with his body now fully exposed.
8. During the 5 seconds you are able to hold onto him, rub vigorously. No need to worry about rinsing. As he slides down the glass enclosure into the tub, he will fall back into the water, rinsing himself in the process.
9. Only attempt the lather and rinse process about 3 times. The cat will realize the lack of traction on the glass by then and will use the next attempt on the first available part of you.
10. Next, the cat must be dried. No...this is NOT the easiest part. By this stage, you are worn out and the cat has just become semi-permanently affixed to your right leg. We suggest here that you drain the tub and in full view of your cat, reach for the bottle of Kitty Bubbles.
11. If you have done step 10 correctly, the cat will be off your leg and hanging precariously from your helmet. Although this view of the cat is most disgusting, he will be in a much better position for wrapping the towel around him.
12. Be sure cat is firmly wrapped in towel before opening tub enclosure. Open bathroom door .... put towel wrapped cat on floor and step back quickly. Into tub, if possible, and do not open enclosure until all you can see is the shredded towel.
13. In about 2 hours .... it will be safe to exit the bathroom. Your cat will be sitting out there somewhere looking like a small hedgehog while plotting revenge. But he does smell better?????
Hope that helps!

Lol, very funny Pira!
But seriously, the best way to wash your cat is to have a sink half full of lukewarm water or a bath with maybe two inches of lukewarm water in the base, with the shampoo close to hand. Holding you cat by the scruff of the neck, lower him slowly into the water. Please note that he will either stiffen like a board meaning you won't be able to get his front feet into the water, or he will wriggle like a maniac because you dared to put him near all that nasty wet water!
With you spare hand gently slosh water over his tummy, back, and chest. Using the least amount of shampoo you possibly can, lather him up,avoiding his face, then using your spare hand, slosh more water over him to wash off the lather. At this stage i usually find it handy to have a shower head attachment nearby as sometimes its just easier to hose him off!
Once the lather is all rinsed off, wrap him a towel and briskly rub dry. DON'T use a hairdryer to dry him as he won't appreciate it and will make him hate the whole procedure even more than he already does. Once you've towelled the worst of the water off leave him to lick dry himself, then you can comb/brush him. Don't brush his fur when its wet as you will only irritate his skin and pull out huge clumps of it.

most cats are normally clean, and require little bathing. but should you have a cat that needs bathing and he doesn't like it, then nothing will make it great,,, except tranquilizers : )
I wash cats with the sprayer attachment. no running water noise, and only water when its needed. Make sure the water is plenty warm, cats normal temp it 100-102. anything colder will feel cold to him. I hold it next to the skin so there is no spraying sensation either.
Haven't found a cat who's excited about hair dryers. you can try to buy the quiet ones, and just blow the excess moisture off after towel drying, and then leave him in a warm room to finish drying.
You can also do the waterless shampoo's and a damp cloth. That seems to work best on short hairs tho. If you have a long hair, you can also send them to a shop where they wash and put them in dryer cages to dry.

The best way to wash a cat is to make sure that the water is warm. Cold or hot water is not a good idea. Another tip is to make sure that you give the cat a bath after it wakes up from sleeping. That way it will be a little sleepy and will fight less. Another good tip would be to fill the tub up with alot of water. This helps in the bathing. Fleas, dirt, or anything else will be washed away in the water. So less scrubbing if more water. Also make sure that you wash the entire body first then the head. All the fleas, if any, will run to the head then when you wash the head they all die from the soap. Make sure not to get any water or soap on the face. And finally the last tip would be to towel dry your cat. After dry, carry the cat into a large closed room. Offer it some food or water. Leave it in the room for about 15 minutes. The cat would calm down. When you want to comb the cat, there are two important things. One, if the cat had long fur brush the cat with a brush with many brushles on it. Two, if the cat has short fur, use a soft brush. Use combes only for areas like the head or tail. And then finally put your cat's collar back on, give it a hug, and let it run around the housse.

You don't wash cats, they wash themselves! And I have to say that the first answer was quite hilarious and doesn't make me want to wash my cat because that's exactly how it would be! My uncle used to say that the best way to wash a cat is to put it in the toilet, close the lid, and flush a few times. Might be easier although not necessarily hygenic...

i wash mine in the bath tub with the pull down shower head,, i never use a blow dryer as they are too hot for cats and can burn their skin (vet told me) i towel dry really really well.. and pulling the comb through wet hair would make him meow loudly as im sure it hurts.. they will lick themselves dry,, they dont need you to do it..

cats wash themselves with their tounges....
cats hate water...
i had to give my cat a bath once cause I moved to an apartment with a flea infestation and he screamed in terror. i thought someone was gonna call teh cops on me for beating an infant.. it sounded like what I imagine a terrified infant woudl sound like...
its just a bad idea to give em a bath... comb them with a cat brush, that keeps hairballs down, which is especially important now casue teh seasons are changing and so is their coat... but cats are like Gizmo from Gremlins.. don't get wet, its not worth the trouble!
if you must... really warm water... locked door... wear what cats can't scratch through... dry with a towel you don't need anymore... the important thing is to keep the kitty warm after he is outta the water. no blow dryer.

call a groomer ,put cat in cat carrier , drive to groomer , drop off cat , go shoping, pick up cat go home and release her . But seriously be very careful a cat bite can kill you if not treated . there teeth are very sharp and needle like and their mouths are very dirty! I would have a profesional do the job!!
