What electrical appliances are necessary to unplugg when they are not in use?

What electrical appliances do you unplug when they are not in use? I could understand things like a hair dryer, alarm clock, coffee pot, cell phone charger, space heater, but what about tv,dvd, vcr, nintendo?

What does it mean to have your tv on standby? Does this just mean turning it off but not unplugging it?

If you have a pc (computer) what is the based way to conserve energy when not using it?

If you unplugged the refridgerator when you are not home for 8 hours a day wouldn't that mess up your food? Don't you save money by making sure the door stays tightly sealed when you shut it or by adjusting the settings?

Microwave?

Unplug only those that have chargers when they are not in use.

there are two appliances that are a leading known cause for home electrical fires. when not in use always unplug you electric can opener and toaster

if you are looking to save energy try unplugging any device that is operated by a transformer. i.e. power supplies. any power supply that uses a transformer is always in operation when powered, even though it may on be plugged in. the power consumption is very minimal but it you are looking to save ever little bit of energy you can start there.
