Frozen doors help plz?

my doors are frozen shut, i tried to pour hot water on them (boiled it, put it in a picture, took it outside...probably still close to boiling temp), but they were still frozen, to make matters worse i think the water froze after pouring it on my car within a minute or two....did i make it worse? how do i unfreeze them? (no i don't have a hair dryer or external electrical outlet)

Don't pour any more water on them...just makes it worse if it's freezing outside. Take some rubbing alchohol and pour small amounts on the weatherstrip areas where the door meets the body in the gap around the doors to thaw the ice...spray de-icer from a parts store works too. When you get the doors open, wipe them and the weatherstripping down to dry off the achohol and buy some spray silicone...spray it into a towel and wipe down all the contact areas of the weatherstrips where the doors meet the body to prevent future freezing. Squirt some lock de-icer (comes in a small squirt bottle at parts stores) into the outside door locks to prevent freezing and spray the door latch mechanisms with WD-40.

Do you have another way into the car?

Last time my doors froze shut, I crawled thru the trunk and into the car (my back seats are released from the trunk). I started the car with the heat on, got the door open and let the car run for an hour to make sure that it was not going to freeze again (that day anyways).

There are plenty of commercial De-icer sprays that will work better. You haven't really done anything other then increasing the thickness of the ice on the door, unless you melted the plastic.

How frozen is it? Is it just the lock or is it the entire door? Are both sides frozen? If it is just the lock, take your key, and hold it to a lighter. Heat the key and stick it in the lock. That would help melt the ice. Once you get it open, spray it with WD-40. That will displace any remaining water so it won't freeze again.

If the entire door is frozen shut, then carefully chip away at the ice around the edges. Be careful not to go too deep, remember there is a car under there. You don't want to scratch your paint or something worse. If you still can't get it open, try some windshield washer fluid. That has a little alcohol in it and should help melt the ice.

If all else fails, try hot water. Pour it over the frozen places to help melt the ice. You gotta be quick though, because you don't want it to re-freeze and make life worse. And you don't want to do it too much because you may melt the wax on the car's surface. Once you melt the ice, you must dry it thoroughly... if you don't, you will be faced with this same situation shortly.

Good Luck!

Frozen doors help plz?

you made it worse hot water freezes faster then cold only thing you can do it point a heater at one of the doors for about a half hour or trying using cold water

Frozen doors help plz?

I presume you tried ALL doors ( hatchback even, if applicable) - if you can crawl in and start to turn the heat on?

Next I would try spraying WD-40 around the 3 non-hinged sides - you want to break the "ice" grip between the door seals and car body door frame.

Good Luck - sometimes takes a fair amount of time.

I have the same problem. I don't know how putting it (water) in a picture will help. I didn't put any hot water in a pitcher either. The doors freeze shut while my car is at work to and I don't have a pitcher of hot water there.

I tried cleaning the framework of every door. I don't know what to do.

It's probably not your hinges, it's the rubber molding/weatherstripping that surrounds the doors. Make sure you pour you hot water all the way around the door. Pull carefully, if you tear the weatherstripping that is a costly replacement.

Once you do get the doors open, put silicone spray on the rubber to prevent ice from forming.

Happened to me this morning im feeling for you, one give the sides a forcefull tap NOt the windows. This should knock the ice loose. next get some water bioling and put a bit on the key lock. Then qiucly pour it down the sides. That should normaly do it qiute well. Use plenty of boiling water. just be carefull with the windows they might shatter if hot water gets on them.

Two issues here.

1) you probably did make the matter worse by pouring the water on. Try again using hot SALT water (add table salt to the water until it stops dissolving). Salt water has a lower freezing point but even it will only work to about -5 degrees F

2) The problem was more than likely located inside the door in the locking mechanism to begin with. You can buy commercial spray deicers made specifically for this issue. They even make small battery operated lock heaters that slide into the lock and heat it up.

Good luck, there has been a tremendous amount of cold weather questions on here recently, almost makes ne feel guilty of our local Virginia 40s and 50's we are having today....

Frozen doors help plz?

your lucky you didn't shatter the windows...what were you thinking?...

you really froze'em up now.....Try Spraying WD-40 or some other spray lubricant into the door jambs with the straw that comes with the can...

DO NOT pour any water onto the doors again...
