If I get a hamster for Christmas (which is likely, since they're relatively cheap and easy to take care of) should I keep it in my bedroom? They're awake during the night...would it keep ME awake as well? I don't really have any other place to put it though. I've been looking for an axcuse to get rid of my awful looking shelves, and a hamster cage would do the trick lol.
Also, I blow-dry my hair every day and my hair dryer is rather loud. Would this bother the hamster? If it does I can just do it in another room (like I did when I shared a room with my sister...I get up so early for school).

I have five hamsters in my room, and they all run for hours on end each night. But, I'm used to the sound of their wheels, and if you're not a light sleeper you should be fine (it takes a little getting used to of course). Any room is okay for a hamster cage, as long as it isn't near a window or drafty/breezy area (hamsters can get sick easily from wind chills).
Your hamster may get nervous the first few times it hears your hair dryer, but they learn very quickly what sounds in their environment are dangerous and what ones aren't (just like he'll recognize your voice as his source of food and playtime).
Before deciding on getting a hamster, do your research. The initial set-up of cage, supplies, food, toys, and animal is usually around $60-$100 (toward the higher, if you get a proper sized cage). And though they seem easy to take care of, they require fresh food and water every day, completely clean and sanitized weekly, and daily attention. Also, if your hamster gets sick or hurt, it's your responsibility to get it proper vet care, which can get very expensive (not to mention truly good, healthy food for them is about $13 a bag, which lasts about a month). Getting any animal is something that needs thinking and planning.

lots of research, ask the shop where you get it from what breed it is as this will help you take care of it, i recomend teddy bear/ syrian MALE hamsters as they are the most friendly. Handle 2wice a day and after 7pm. Hairdryer will annoy him but he will get over it, mine does just sleep through my hairdryer etc now, DONT SPRAY anything in the room. Get a big cage and a spare 20 pound ready for emergency vet appointments.
they are awake at night, i sleep through it (some dont) be prepared to relocate the hammy, dont put them near any other hamsters or any other animals and dont put them near windows or doors where a draft may be.

I keep my hamster in the living room, which is far away from our bedroom, and he still manages to wake me sometimes with him eating, and running around LOL!! He has never used his exercise wheel or chewed the bars of his cage, but if this does become a problem for you, you can buy silent wheels, and hang treats and wooden chew blocks in the cage to stop bar chewing.
Also my hamster lives on the unit by our television, but as he has always lived there it has never woken him up... ever. He loves his sleep too much. Same with the hair dryer. I use it in the living room every morning before work and it never wakes him.

Do research before anything.... there are hamster wheels called Silent Spinners, they're quiet. You could try the bedroom, but you might get allergic, my cousin did when she kept it in her room and she moved it to the living room.
Hope I helped!

It depends on how light of a sleeper you are and what kind of wheel your hamster has. No matter what they will make noise....and don't blowdry your hair right next to their cage and I think it will be okay. Just do lots of research online before getting a hamster. I have to put my hamster in the hallway everynight because I'm a light sleeper and no wheel was quiet enough. But he doesn't mind so its okay. Make sure to get lots of stuff for them to do and maybe switch things around every few weeks so they don't get bored and chew on bars or things they shouldn't be chewing on.

I have my hamster in my bedroom on a burrow. shes happy there because its not in direct sunlight. how loud is your hair dryer? my vacum wakes her up sometimes in the afternoon. mu hamster doesnt really keep me up at night though sometimes i wake up in the middle of the night ( not cause of the hamster) and i hear the wheel or her drinking from her bottle.

Unless your wheel is rather squeeky than no your ham would not keep you up at night also the blow dryer wold not bother it unless u tried to blow dry the hammy but i highly doubt you would be dumb or cruel enough to do so. I dont believe you would have any problems with keeping your ham inyour room
