Themal Energy?

Whats the maximum amount of ice a 3500 J/s hair dryer could melt in one minute?

Themal Energy?

The question asked for the MAXIMUM amount of ice, so we have to assume that the ice is at the freezing/melting temperature. Any lower temperature and it won't be the maximum amount of ice because some of the heat is wasted bringing the temperature of the ice up to the freezing/melting point.

3500 J/s * 60s = 210,000J

Water's heat of fusion = 334 J/g

Total ice which can be melted = 210,000J / 334J/g = 628.74g

Themal Energy?

Without knowing the actual temperature of the ice, it is impossible to say. However, to raise 1 gram of water 1鎺?C requires 1 Calorie. 1 Calorie (C) is equal to 4.184 joules.

However:

3500J/s * 60 s = 210000 J

210000 J * (1 C/4.184 J) = 50191.2046 C

50191.2046 C * (1 gram Water raised 1鎺?C) = 50191.2046 grams of water raised by one degree C, one gram of water raised 50191.2046 degrees C, or some combination of the two.
