I was blow drying my hair and when I cut it off there was a slight spark. I let it rest for a bit and tried to reuse it but the dryer wouldn't come on anymore. I tried doing "test" and "retest" on both the dryer and socket and it won't work. I tried plugging another hair dryer up and it sisn't work either. I went to another room and it worked just find. Is there something I can do to fix it or do I need to call an electrician?
Could my blowdryer have caused a problem with my electric socket?
You may have burned out the outlet. If it was a GFCI, then try to reset it. If it doesn't reset then it's either damaged or the power going to it is off (or shorted).
Also check out your breakers to make sure power is going to the circuit. Hair dryers are notorious for tripping circuit breakers and burning out receptacles.
When in doubt, call a licensed electrician.
Good luck.

you might check the circuit breaker and make sure it wasn' t thrown. It could have fried out the box itself, and it will have to be replaced. If the outlet does not have a GFI (ground fault interruptor), i highly recommend u get one. if you are not electrically talented, i also recommend u get an electrician to test the ground, and install a GFI outlet.

Find your main circuit breaker box. Look for a breaker that isn't all the way to one side. Or just open and close all of them. But something had to cause the problem. Better get that checked.
