I feel like I need to do more.?

I noticed a family without a home on the side of the road (homeless shelters are all full this time of year). There were 3 young children, ages 3, 7, and 12. Because it is so cold and there wasn't going to be a shelter available for 40 days (that was the closet person to check-out). I got them:

- a 3 bedroom hotel room (manager even lowered his deal to $350 a month)

- 3 outfits each

- each a haircut

- personal grooming things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soup, mouth wash, shampoo, conditioner, brush, hair dryer, hair spray, deodorant, perfume, make-up, Pull-Ups, wipes, sippy cups, razors, shaving cream, sanitary products, etc.

- the mom a job at my office (perfect because we were in need of another receptionist

- The hotel walls where plan white, the sheets were white and comforters were just a solid color. I bought them all new sheets, pillows, and comforters because I'm not a big fan of sleeping on hotel beds myself for a week, I can't imagine that being my home bed.

You have done enough. You did the right thing and now it's up to the mother to do her part. You got her back on her feet so step back and let her take responsibility for her life. If you continue to be overly generous, you will be taken advantage of.

i think you have done plenty enough already! you gave the mom a job so now why dont you just wait to see if she appreciates it enough to keep it and manage her money wisely!

Everyone makes their own choices and has to live with their decisions. I used to give like you. Now I think people should deal with the decisions they chose to make. Maybe they shouldn't have had so many children.......

but personally, i certainly don't care if someone in need is "grateful" or not (it's largely random luck that i've got the money to give and they don't), but i do want my money going to someone who really needs it the most. i find it the best use of my money to give to charitable organizations that can distribute the money to those who most need it, rather than just the particular person who happened to walk in front of me that day (who may or may not be truly needy, or may or may not be using any money i give to fund a drug habit rather than their kids, etc.).

not that there's anything wrong with what you're doing if you're sure they really needed it. and the job is really the best favor of all.

People like you are needed more in this world. I hope this is enough to give this mother a lift. There are many of programs to help mothers like this. I would try to help her find programs to benefit her and her children.

WOW! What you are doing is truly wonderful, your giving this family an opportunity to turn their lives around, and that's great, there should be more people like you, most people are too busy worrying about their selves, buying things they don't need!

I think it's great that you helped the mom get a job - sometimes a hand up is way better than a hand out.

personally I wouldn't too involved in their personal life, unless they ask for help. maybe you should take a step back and let this lady get back on her feet .

You keep posting questions like this. I hope you really are helping all these people and not just wasting everyones time. If you are then that is great, but often people who need to announce what they do really do it for false reasons, either way if this is not a lie then keep it up it sounds like you have a lot of money and helping those who don't is great. If this is just for fun then stop there really are a lot of people in the world who need help and mocking them is very rude.
